VARIETAL:GLASS AND WINE
It’s not about an endless selection of glasses. Not every grape needs its own glass,
but every type of wine needs a specifically designed glass shape to elevate the wine’s
character—whether that wine is mature, powerful, fruity, light-bodied, spicy or sweet.
Different glasses with different sizes and shapes are needed to influence the development
of the wine in the glass. For example, full-bodied, low-tannin wines demand plenty of air
to develop. A wider goblet increases the contact surface of the wine with the oxygen in
the air. This allows the flavor and bouquet to unfold faster and more fully. Conversely,
a young and more fruity wine requires a glass with a smaller bowl to achieve optimum
flavor as well.
